Free Reverse Polish Notation (RPN) Calculator on a Microsoft Windows Mobile device
Posted 7 November, 2007 at 10:05pm by Michael Chu(Filed under: Windows Mobile)
I finally made the upgrade and went to a Pocket PC / Windows Mobile 6 Smartphone. I got myself the HTC Mogul (aka HTC PPC-6800) for use with Sprint PCS. It's a pretty nifty phone - bigger than my old crappy Sony Ericsson T616, but if it replaces my PDA (Palm m515) and phone, then it'll be worth it.
There are several programs that I use on my Palm m515 that I have found invaluable (or perhaps I just got so used to having the application that I can't seem to imagine using something that doesn't work as well). RPN is one such program. It is a postfix (where you enter values onto a stack and apply operators after) calculator for Palm OS. Users of HP accounting calculators and the legendary HP48GX scientific calculator will be used to using a reverse polish notation calculator.
It took me a while to find a free reverse polish calculator for my new Microsoft Windows Mobile 6 (I guess formerly known as Windows CE) OS, but find it I did! It's called: MyPocketCalc. Sure, there's a bunch of other free RPN calculators out there, but they are modeled after the HP accounting calculators that only display one line at a time. I wanted an RPN calculator that showed the stack (otherwise you have to remember what you popped onto the stack - which is okay until you start working with more complicated equations). Unfortunately, the download link was down (the app was available on the programmer's website that he hosted on a free French website which no longer existed).
A searched and searched - someone must have downloaded the program and hosted the file, right? I finally found it on some out of country website which I should have documented when I found it because I can't seem to find it again. Anyway, here is the installation file (CAB file) for MyPocketCalc. (In case the other site disappears… which doesn't seem unlikely)
MyPocketCalc.cab
And for those using Palm OS:
RPN.prc

Thanks and wow - probably the best RPN calculator i've tried. I bought Calc Pro - really great calculator but the RPN support isn't as good.
