What I Ate: January 7, 2008

I'm starting to eat more flavorful foods again (finally!) but I'm not going to push it. I went up to the office (Dave's living room in his apartment) in San Francisco today and brought some food with me. Started off with a plain (no condiments) sandwich made of toasted white bread and three slices of Oscar Meyer turkey breast (picked up at the 7-Eleven on my way to work).

I fueled up the rest of the day with three servings of capellini with olive oil and garlic which I spaced out through the afternoon.

Since it takes me about an hour to drive home from the City, it's usually too late to think about cooking dinner, so Tina and I often eat out. We bounced around a couple ideas and the top choices were a Taiwanese rice porridge shop or a Cantonese restaurant specializing in rice in clay pot dishes. I chose the porridge since it would be a more mild way of introducing my body to flavorful foods again (the Cantonese shop seems to have less lean meats topping their rice bowls - we'll save that for later).

I picked out a bean curd dish, Chinese meatballs ("Lion's heads" - a pork and water chestnut meatball), green beans, and bamboo shoots (which I didn't eat much of because of their extreme fibrousness might be too much work for my bowels). These dishes helped me down a couple bowls of rice porridge.
