Photo of the Day: Ripe Thompson Seedless Grapes

Most people don't know what Thompson Seedless grapes look like when fully ripe. The supermarkets always sell them when they are green and tart. This is what it looks like when they are picked at their peak ripeness and if you see this yellow (with a hint of orange) color on Thompson Seedless grapes in your market… buy them!

  • Thinking about your commenting problem. I get your updates through my RSS reader, so I'd have to have a pretty burning comment to force me to click through to your site and post a comment.

Needless to say, I enjoy your updates; I wouldn't subscribe otherwise. I'm inspired to be a better photographer, just as soon as I get a decent camera and some lessons. Maybe you could think about sharing your knowledge with photography newbies. I do appreciate that you include your photo stats.

  • Oh, and one more thing - I really liked Tina's soap posts. Would like to hear more from her.

  • Thanks Andrew! It's a good point you make about people who read via RSS.

I've thought about (since college actually) writing a site describing the technical basics of photography… but I've never found the time to do it.

Tina's working on another soap article, but I'm not sure when she'll be done with it.

  • One more comment about Thompsons - some of the farmers are starting to cut back on watering their grapes. It's the same concept as with tomatoes - overwatering leads to plump, juicy, but watered-down fruit. Cut back the water and your fruit will look smaller, the skin a little tougher, but the flavors really concentrated.

  • That's a good point! These Thompsons were no more than a cm long. The flavor was remarkable (especially compared to the 1 in long green Thompsons I usually find at Safeway).

  • Trader Joe's had them a lot. I just bought some last night.

While the flavor is a bit more concentrated, I think I prefer the "crunch" of bitting into a plump and juicy seemingly pressurized juice-filled grape. More so with red Thompsons. I like 'em when they are like seedless Globe grapes.
