What I Ate or Photo of the Day?
Posted 5 January, 2009 at 1:12am by Michael Chu(Filed under: Orthogonal Thought)
I'm beginning to realize that I might not be able to do both What I Ate and Photo of the Day. I'm not sure which you guys (my readers) would like to see more - pictures and descriptions of the food that I'm eating or a photo that I like picked out from my library. Last year, I did about 90 to 100 entries of each of these (What I Ate at the beginning of the year; Photo of the Day at the end of the year) and I don't know which you'd like to see going forward. Leave a comment so I know which you'd like for me to keep going.

I vote for photo of the day. The other is interesting, but your photos are so amazing.

I like What I Ate as well. Looks like you've got fans on both sides!

Hmmm… you guys aren't making this easy.

_truly_ what I'd love is to see more recipes on Cooking for Engineers. I've used your recipes several times, and I'm someone who doesn't often use recipes, so that's a real compliment.
But if I had to choose between the two options presented, I'm sticking with Photo of the day.

Ah, and we come to the REAL problem… I would love to provide more recipes on Cooking For Engineers but they take a long time for me to write. Never fear, there are a few in the works… I just need the time to sit down and write.

I like both as well.
Why not do a photo of the day that happens to frequently be what you ate?

I like both, too, so why not surprise us. Do whichever you feel like alternating when you want.

i like "what i ate" but both are interesting. i think alternating is a good option.

I vote for What I Ate today. It's interesting and inspiring. It makes me want to learn more about a restaurant or recipe.

"What I Ate" is so awesome! My vote definitely goes for it! I don't check it every day and the reason for that is that I like to save them up so I can view a progression of what you ate.
Keep up the great work, I've been using your techniques and recipes from CFE since 2005!

If I must choose, Photo of the Day is my pick, though I like both.

I'm glad to see that you're doing "What I Ate" again. I come for the food porn.

i vote piccies of food and recipes as seen by engineers. i may be a creative type, but i do have an engineering background. and i do have stage 4 - so i'm pulling the cancer card! (i, actually, shouldn't be laughing - but what else am i going to do - cry over it?)

I received a lot of feedback to keep both Photo of the Day and What I Ate going, but I just can't do both. So, I decided to try this - I'll keep the What I Ate going and scale back the Photo of the Day to twice a week - there will be a Wednesday Photo and a Photo of the Week (on Sundays).

I vote for phots of what I am going to make in the kitchen. Although, I must say your photography is as wonderful as your recipes. The chicken potpie tonight.. the marsala on the weekend. Thanks for a great website!

Michael, you do in person what so many can only dream of doing; ergo, they do it online through your eyes, words and photos. My mother used to say, "Bring me your love and I'll revere it more than if it were a boquet of roses." Thank you for all the roses!

So, was that a vote for What I Ate or Photo of the Day?

I vote for both! I love the pics of the meals. My friend and I used that trick to order food in Japan.

Hi Michael, I've been a fan of CFE for some time now. My father-in-law was a civil engineer who took Chinese cooking lessons and my son just finished a mechanical engineering technology degree and also enjoys cooking. One thing I've learned about engineers is that they're always right! I told that to an engineer once and she promptly replied "No we're not!"… Anyway, the CFE is great, What I Ate is great and Photo of the Day is great. So I vote for you continuing to do as much as you can without getting burned out and wanting to quit.
Thanks,
George

It's like asking which child should I keep, the girl or the boy?

If you had to choose, you could alternate between the two categories. Great website!
