With my vehicle fixed (the fuel pump had died), I headed back up to San Francisco for work today. Papa brought in a box of macarons from Paulette (437 Hayes St., San Francisco, CA 94102 - (415) 864-2400) which we cut up and shared. They were good, but I didn't think they were worth $1.70 each.

For lunch, I met with a couple of the guys from Foodoro at South Beach Cafe (800 Embarcadero St, San Francisco, CA‎ - (415) 974-1115‎) and ordered an Antonio Pizza (tomato sauce, fresh mozzarella, fresh basil, and prosciutto).

At dinner, Tina felt like having Won Ton Soup, so I looked on Yelp to see if there some a local Chinese restaurant where people liked the won ton soup. I ended up with 4-5-6 Restaurant (2362 Pruneridge Ave, Santa Clara, CA‎ - (408) 985-8456‎) where I had eaten years before when I lived a couple blocks away. We ended up ordering the Wor Won Ton Soup (the photo is after they served us two bowls of soup with two won tons each already).

I liked the Wor Won Ton Soup and would order that again. The other dishes were okay, but the rice was not good. A little hard, bland, and not the kind of rice I like eating with my Chinese food. It sucks when something so fundamental as rice decreases the enjoyment of a meal.

  • That is a pleasant arrangement of treats. Were they all straight-forward flavors?

Michael Chu, February 13th, 2009 at 11:18 am:

  • Some were "exotic", but they were pretty much all familiar flavors - vanilla, hazelnut, pistachio, green tea, raspberry, amaretto, chocolate. I remember thinking the green tea was a bit too sweet and the amaretto tasted more like artificial almond flavor instead of the milder taste of almonds. Chestnut was so mild we weren't really sure what flavor it was.

  • $1.70 for each macaron?! Highway robbery.

  • I think Papa paid $20 for a dozen (and it wasn't even a Baker's Dozen!!!)
