What I Ate: May 26, 2009

Lunch: I made Sloppy Joes. Didn't have any tomato paste (just realized that I don't have any canned tomato products - need to pick up some) so I had to use extra ketchup which left the sauce a little too acidic.

Dinner: Pork and cilantro won tons at Tina's parent's home. They used a different won ton skin which was no good - it fell apart while being boiled and was gummy and doughy. The brand was Wing Hing (from Los Angeles) and the product was Wonton Wraps. Maybe they weren't designed to be boiled (they mention steaming and frying). Whatever, avoid these.

  • The presentation of your homemade dishes is nice. Are you shooting them in a special area or do you guys have a really pristine, white table :)?

  • I have a tent of translucent fabric that disperses the light. (There are many manufacturers but I'm currently using a product called Cubelite currently sold through Bogen.) There is a white vinyl sheet clipped to the back of the tent that drapes down and across to cover the bottom where the food is placed to make it look like a uniform white background. I'm using a single 105-W compact fluorescent bulb (although compact isn't what I'd call something a foot long) illuminating the tent. I may add a second bulb for more even lighting in the future.
