What I Ate: January 3, 2009 (Sino)

Went to Sino at Santana Row for lunch. This was our second time there - the first time we had dim sum (which was decent) so we decided not to order dim sum for lunch.

Emperor's Fried Rice - passable; what any decent cook whose never cooked fried rice could do at home. It certainly did not justify the $15 price tag

What I Ate: January 2, 2009 (KFC)

Due to an unforeseen sequence of events at work, I didn't get a chance to eat lunch. I had several pieces of fine chocolate confections followed by a granola bar at around 4:00pm before going home.

For dinner, I picked up some food from KFC - a couple of original recipe drumsticks, hot wings, honey BBQ wings, cole slaw, potato wedges, corn, and a biscuit. Hopefully, that was enough calories to cover my day.

Now that it's 2009, I thought I'd try this whole "What I Ate" project again. Last year, I did it for almost three months and several people emailed me after I stopped that they enjoyed the series. So, I'm going to try it again.

The first "meal" of 2009 was at around 2:00 AM while I was at my friend Harold's home for their annual New Year's Eve Game Party. I had two beef taquitos and a couple of Olive Street Table appetizers.

Dining: Manora's Thai Cuisine

Posted 10 August, 2008 at 1:09am by Michael Chu

A couple weeks ago I had to head back up to San Francisco to do some work in our data center. After I was done, I took my wife to a Thai restaurant that Dave Lu introduced me to: Manora's Thai Cuisine. The food there is excellent AND reasonably priced (around $10 a dish).

Por-Pia-Sod (rice paper rolls stuffed with crab, shrimp, pork sausage, pork, cucumber and mushroom, topped with sweet and sour tamarind sauce). Highly Recommended.

B44 (San Francisco)

Posted 29 June, 2008 at 7:20pm by Michael Chu

It's funny how sometimes the best things to eat are the simple things. I haven't been to this restaurant in a couple years, so I thought I'd stop in. B44 is a restaurant specializing in Spanish (Catalan) cuisine and is situated on Belden Place among several other western European places to eat. After my last visit, I'd recommend the Catalan toast and ox tails appetizer. From memory their paellas are quite good, but for us last night it was the basic appetizers that hit the spot. Unfortunately, I didn't have a camera on me, so no pictures - just descriptions.

Lunch from Mehfil's - two items so I could taste both. I wonder who writes their descriptions everyday because they always make me want to try new things:

(1) JEERA ALOO
(Potatoes cooked in red onions and roasted cumin’s)
Haryana the city of agriculture has its old traditions of cooking; here cumin’s are the specialty and you can find cumin in every dish. The base is prepared with red onions, tomatoes, garlic, ginger, and several other spices and a touch of Asafetida. After cutting the potatoes into cubes they are sautéed with the base and roasted cumin’s.
$5.00
