For lunch, I met with Dave and his company, Sendori, at Garcia's Taqueria. I had my usual of a lengua super quesadilla.

For lunch I had the Square Deal (Drumstick and Thigh with Mashed Potatoes) at KFC and also bought additional corn on the cobs.

On our last day in New York City, we went back to FAO Schwarz to eat their amazing croissant again.

Of course, I had to also order a hot chocolate to go with it.

We started off the day heading out to Liberty Island (where the Statue of Liberty stands). We ate at the cafeteria there and I ended up with a hot dog and fries. Tina had some of my fries and I had some of her pizza.

This morning I discovered that the primary hard drive on the server running both Cooking for Engineers and Orthogonal Thought (this blog) crashed… so that put me into a pretty foul mood. After a morning touring the NBC studios and learning about John D. Rockefeller, Jr., we headed over to Central Park West intending to visit the American Museum of Natural History. Signe's cousin had provided us with a few options suggestions for lunch in that area and we chose Good Enough To Eat to have brunch because of its high Yelp ratings and its listing in the Michelin Red Book.

Good Enough To Eat was not a good choice for a party of five to have a quick brunch at - there's basically only one table big enough to sit five (and they just wouldn't leave), so we waited outside for about 45 minutes. If you're a smaller group, the line moves fairly rapidly. While we waited, the line behind us disappeared completely twice.

Tina and I met our good friends Trevor and Signe. We haven't seen them in about three and a half years (since our wedding where Trevor served as Best Man) because they were teaching English in Japan. After a brief stroll in Central Park, we went into FAO Schwarz to warm up and have a little breakfast.

Having had an egg cream at Carnegie Deli the previous day, I tried the one at FAO Schwarz's cafe (called FAO Schweetz). It wasn't as foamy as the one at Carnegie Deli, tasted less like Hershey's, but wasn't exceptional. I think you probably have to have grown up drinking egg creams to find them special.

At lunch, we went to the Carnegie Deli to try their famous pastrami. We didn't know what to expect except sandwiches that featured so much meat that it was unlikely anyone would be able to eat the whole thing. We ordered a Woody Allen (half corned beef and half pastrami) and the first thing that struck us was just how flavorful the pastrami was. It wasn't overly salty, in fact the salt level was quite low and mild and you can really taste the spices they use - but not enough to discern them individually. It was some good pastrami. The pastrami was so good in fact that eating the corned beef became out the question. When there's so much pastrami, why both with the corned beef?

We flew to New York today so ended up eating lunch during the five hour flight. Virgin America serves food a la carte using a touch screen menu system to order and instant credit card payment. We ordered a steak sandwich ($9) that featured tenderloin with mozzarella cheese and basil pesto on ciabatta. It was pretty decent as airline food goes, but of course is hard to compare against food freshly prepared.

For lunch, I ate some leftovers from the previous night - rice with stewed pork ribs and gizzards.

For dinner, Tina's parents provided us with rice, shrimp, and napa cabbage cooked with potatoes and bean thread noodles.

For lunch, I heated up a Trader Joe's Beef Tamale.
