What I Ate: February 8, 2008

I went to Garcia's Taqueria for lunch and ate with my friend Dave and his company, Sendori. I ordered a super quesadilla with lengua (beef tongue) and a horchata.

I went down to the corner market near where I work in San Francisco for lunch. I picked up a piece of meat lasagna and assembled a salad for lunch.

For lunch, I had some rice that I had left over from the previous night and the Mongolian Beef from China Stix on Sunday.

For lunch, I picked up a Bacon, Lettuce, Tomato, and Avocado sandwich at Crossroads Cafe near where I work when I work in the City. I haven't had this sandwich since last year since we haven't been working in San Francisco much so far in 2008. The nice thing about sandwiches at Crossroads Cafe is that they come with a side salad.

For lunch, three of the Fanpop Four (Papa's sick) when to Hard Knox Cafe. Having been really impressed by the ox tail and the fried chicken, I thought I'd try something new. I ordered their fried pork chops and was a little let down. The chops were tough and chewy and the breading didn't stay on the pork.

I started off the day with half a bagel (plain) spread with some cream cheese.
After church and running some errands, I picked up some food from China Stix to take home to Tina (who is sick - perhaps with the same thing I had last since her sinuses are really congested). I ordered Mongolian Beef (which they make with a lot of green onions), Hunan Family Style Tofu, String Beans, and Pork Fried Rice.

For lunch, we again headed for pho but got side tracked. We passed a new ramen place that we had been meaning to try, so I turned around and went to Jumak Restaurant (Google Maps). It seems that they are a Korean run restaurant that imports a lot of goods from Japan (frozen) that you normally don't find in Japanese restaurants (and of course many of the items you would normally find). We ordered a few small plates along with our ramen (which is much too much food, but we wanted to try them).
The gyoza were deep fried and it was pretty obvious they they were previously frozen. Some pieces had very little filling surrounded by a dumpling shaped balloon of crispy skin.

I had lunch with my men's group from church (about two months ago, we started meeting together as a group - but we'd been friends for years) at Pizz'a Chicago in Santa Clara. We shared a Apple Walnut Salad which I really enjoyed. The candied walnuts, mild creamy blue cheese, and Granny Smith apples worked perfectly with the greens and vinaigrette. I was a little surprised at how good the salad tasted to me.

For lunch, I decided to try another new place - Kirk's Steakburgers in Santa Clara. This is a restaurant that opened up recently taking the location of the ominously named restaurant "The Octagon" (which I never got a chance to try). We've been getting fliers for Kirk's Steakburgers for a while, so I thought it was time to try it out. I ordered the Steakburger (1/3 pound patty) with cheese (Jack) cooked medium-well (it came closer to medium) as well as a side of garlic fries (after verifying that they were steak fries and not shoestring). The burger comes with just a bun - you provide the fixings from on open bar. I loaded the burger up with lettuce, tomatoes, pickles, red onions, mayonnaise, and ketchup.

For lunch, I decided on Mongolian BBQ because I had a brief chat about it the previous day with someone. I hadn't had Mongolian BBQ in quite a while (perhaps a year), so this was a bit of a treat.
